[Tuts]Add Dreamy Effects to your photo

[Tuts]Add Dreamy Effects to your photo

Sep 21, 2010

You may want to make you picture looks like in a dreamy scene where the background is beautiful and lots of colors surrounding you. This tutorial will show you how to make this kind of effects to you picture.

Cool isn’t it? Lets start!

Before we start our tutorial, I list down pictures that I need to make this kind of effects. You may download all of it.

1) Open a picture. In this tutorial I will use this picture of my friends.

2) Add a new layer. Add the bokeh texture to the original picture. You may want to use another bokeh texture to make a difference. Just Google for it. Resize the bokeh texture so that it fit nicely on your canvas. Set the blending mode to screen. Now you got the bokeh effects straight away to your picture.

3) Notice that on  the face of my friend, the bokeh effects are cleared to enhance the detail of the face. To do this, add a masking layer to the bokeh texture, and remove the area of the face. Use brush with 20% opacity to just remove a little bit, yet still preserve the color.

Normal blending mode

Screen blending mode

4) Now I want to add some nice color to some part of the picture to make it interesting. Make a new layer, set color to bright blue #24d7fb. Pick brush with large diameter ( in this case I use round brush with master diameter=300, hardness=0) Paint around the place that you like. Now heres the trick, set the blending mode to screen. Play around with the color and set the blending mode to screen. Lower down the opacity to 80%.

Add some more bright color to the picture with new layer. This is up to your creativity to add how many layer you want to add. Play around with the color, change the blending mode to screen and lower down the opacity.

Done. Easy right? Now its your turn to show me yours. Drop me a comment below to show yours!. Don’t forget to link me if you refer to this tutorial. I would be very happy to see all your pics here. Good luck!
