Video – International Culture Night 2011

Apr 2, 2011

Last night was the final night for ICN 2011, previously there were several events conducted as the pre-events for ICN 2011 such as ICN Go Green and the expo. I did video for them. Working with various people with various culture was very challenging. In the video, there are interview that has been done by using their mother languages. Yes, their mother languages. Egypt, Thailand, Mozambique, Pakistan and much more. Haha even me don’t understand almost all parts of the interview accept for some parts of Egypt’s interview. I learnt Arabic also but not so well.

Screenshot of the making. I use Sony Vegas Pro 10.0 & Adobe After Effects

So here  is the opening video.

1254 clips were used to make this video and shot with Canon 60 D.

Interview and the sound quality

I made a simple observation about the sound quality when I did the interview, it is always good to have directional condenser microphone, but you will get higher quality when you use wireless lavalier microphone. Additional tips, if you are planning to display your video in larger hall, better switch your microphone to a better one or you will die hearing the sound quality output. If you go deep playing the video above, you can hear two level of audio. This is because I used two different microphone at the same time. Audio Technica pro 88 and Rode Videomic.

For the Rode Videomic sound quality, you can refer to this video.

I will post the test sound of the Audio Technica Pro 88 after this. Still uploading

Why wireless lavalier microphone?

Maybe some of you don’t know what is actually wireless lavalier microphone. Let me copy and paste this first.

lavalier microphone or lavalier (or lav or lapel mic) is a small electret or dynamic microphone used for television, theatre, and public speaking applications, in order to allow hands-free operation. They are most commonly provided with small clips for attaching to collars, ties, or other clothing. The cord may be hidden by clothes and either run to a radio frequency transmitter in a pocket or clipped to a belt (for mobile work), or directly to the mixer (for stationary applications).

In my case, I just use cheap wireless lavalier microphone namely Audio Technica Pro 88. You can get the microphone almost RM800 (cheapest one I think based on its standard). Of course, the noise is still present and it is almost impossible to escape from the present of noise, but so far it reach the standard of interview sound quality.

Ps: I guess this is the last event that I join before I am going to my internship.
